Thoughts on being a 'creative creator'

With so much content out in the world, it's important to be selective. To think about how what your choosing to include in your life is really feeding you? And rather than believe everything hook line and sinker that someone else is feeding you, be willing to question it and then make it your own.

introducing! ctbaby

When I began painting characters they were for me and anyone else who got them in the way I did. I never started Creative Thursday solely to design for the little ones. But as it turns out, the little ones and their parents are some of my biggest fans.  So over the years I've loved painting with them in mind. Then there is also the part of me that thrives on working in all different styles and disciplines. 

From the beginning, Creative Thursday was always meant to be the umbrella for all of my creative endeavors - and it still is.

With a new project on the horizon, I have been uncertain about how to move forward with my brand incorporating everything I enjoy. And then finally - it was right in front of me. 

A way for my worlds to co-exist: 

introducing ctbaby

This marks the beginning of a subtle separation of my brand. With the hope that this will also make things clear for my customers, and for me, going forward. This decision allows me to really expand in all the directions I want to go without holding back on any of them.

With much more to come, a separate store, different designs and products, today's introduction of 'ctbaby' is a soft launch. We're starting with clothing; dresses, adjustable aprons and onesies. Exclusive Creative Thursday designs with everything sewn and printed in the studio, each piece will only be available in the shop for a limited time. We look forward to sharing more with you soon.

#mycreativethursday starts tomorrow

I'm doing something new over at Instagram and it starts tomorrow. This is the approximate post I just shared over on my feed:

So this has been an obvious one, and why I haven't I done it before? 

Well that was then and this is now, and now we have Instagram!!

Starting tomorrow 8/14/14 and every Thursday following, if you feel inspired; join me in being CREATIVE - in whatever medium you choose, you can share it with all of us on Instagram by tagging it #mycreativethursday.

I'm intentionally not giving you a lot of  notice because too much lead time can lead to too much planning and overwhelm which leads to not doing it all. k?! Believe me while I know a lot about being creative, I also know all of the reasons/excuses we use to resist it. The only way I am so prolific is because I know how to recognize those reasons and simultanesouly leave them in the dust. Sometimes you've just gotta make something already.

So if you want to play! join me tomorrow by sharing what you made or what you're working on...and to make it a little easier, if you don't know where to begin, I'm also offering a theme of flowers.

Could be anything yes? put together a bouquet, photograph flowers, do a drawing, a painting, wrtie a short poem, crochet a flower, make one out of paper, applique, embroidery...cook something with flowers or flour for that matter :-)

or create whatever your heart desires.

As promised, 3 weeks in! I'm still podcasting :-) and this time I have a special guest, someone very dear to me, my yoga teacher for the past 12 years, Leslie Peters.

I'm going to keep the written intro to this brief as everything I want to say to you to introduce this episode, is in the opening of  the podcast itself. Also, it's a longer one, approximately 1 hour and 15 min.

A delicate topic, or rather many delicate topics Leslie and I talk about, all contained under the umbrella of loss. However the intent by sharing this conversation and inviting you into the discussion with us; is not only to provide soothing and comfort for all of us, but maybe, together, we can think about what it might be like to approach this universal experience of transitions in life with an open heart.

Our friend Jon just opened his new shop @ 5522 W. Pico Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90019.

Jon used to have a shop in Carpinteria. Let's say that over the years, most of our furniture = from Jon.

He has a great aesthetic. With so much looking the same today in design and home furnishings, I have always found Jon's finds refreshing. His pieces are Personality + Quality.

Definitely pay him a visit. indeed... is open Wednesday - Sunday.
