Ok, I'm a little enamored with this painting and I'm not entirely sure why.
I think some of the love stems from the fun I've been having painting on black backgrounds again. I painted a few black backgrounds when I first started daily painting. In fact my technique used to be to paint a solid background color first and while the paint was still wet, I scratched/sketched my design in the paint. That is how I created this one. It creates a really interesting effect especially when you overlay one paint color on top of another one and in the case of this image, painting white over black. I'm also especially drawn to as much negative space as possible these days.
In a way I'm revisiting a creative time when I had less expectations of how a painting would be received or whether it would even sell. There is something liberating when you create without expectation ~ and when you start to sell your work and/or become more commercial, I think it's important to find your way back to that time.
Once again that is why Halloween time is especially fun for me, a chance to step out of my usual box.
